A brand to mark RAF centenary celebrations.
The Challenge
To help mark the 100th year of service, we were approached by 208 Hawk Squadron and 22 SAR Force Squadron to produce a commemorative Centenary Crest which would be embroided onto the Squadron uniforms. This was also to be a very poignant tribute, as it also marked the decommissioning of both squadrons and the handover of duties of Search and Rescue ops to privately owned company, Bristow. The crest was to be used throughout the year for all Centenary celebrations, including the main disbandment party at Duxford War Museum. Specially commissioned SAR Force and 208 Squadron beers were also produced to mark this prestigious occasion.
Our Solution
A plethora of plane and helicopter drawings later, the device we came up with was to be a simple one. A large roundel, based on the roman numeral for 100 – C. Within the crest we drew a gold Seaking helicopter and marked the date the Squadron started and subsequently ended.
The beer labels were then devised to denote each of the squadrons with imagery and styling, ‘tipping a hat’ to past eras.
